An illness in the night. And this morning the well-known psychologist Vera Slepoj, 70 years old, was found dead in her home in Padua. Originally from Portogruaro, she graduated in Psychology at the University of Padua in 1977 with a thesis on “Deviance and control mechanisms in a current society”. In the early 1980s you published your first book, “Understanding Feelings”.

The emotional dimension of the human being was the sphere with which Vera Slepoj has always dealt, writing several books and often participating in television programmes. In her life there had also been an administrative experience, as councilor for culture and museums of the Province of Padua, between 1999 and 2004. She had also been president of the Italian Federation of Psychologists and of the International Health Observatory.

«A loss not only for the scientific community – the mayor of the city, Sergio Giordani, wrote on social media – but also for the city, where she, originally from Portogruaro, had chosen to live after graduating from our University. Vera Slepoj was also well known for her interventions, always very interesting and never banal, in newspapers and on television; her attention towards the community was expressed, about twenty years ago, also through the role of councilor for culture, museums and social services of the Province of Padua. We will miss her enthusiasm and friendliness, as well as her ability to deal clearly and informatively with important topics such as emotional relationships and other complex social problems.”
