Municipality wins appeal against reduction of post office hours

Ludovico Caverni (photo) is a happy mayor. “I am happy to announce – the mayor informs – that the municipality of Serra Sant’Abbondio has won the appeal at the Tar Marche against Poste Italiane for the downsizing that since 2015 has brought the opening of the local post office from six to three days. It is a historic ruling for the citizens of Serra Sant’Abbondio and for all the citizens of the internal areas and that will set a precedent”. “It is a historic victory for us – explains the mayor – but also for many small Italian municipalities. In 2015 we had challenged the reduction proposed by Poste Italiane at the TAR and after almost 9 years the sentence has finally arrived, a sentence that gives the Municipality one hundred percent in favor and orders Poste Italiane to return to opening the service for six days. Our population is over 65 for thirty percent and the closest office is the one in Frontone which among other things is very small and cannot contain all the users in the three days of closure of the Serra Sant’Abbondio office. The TAR Judge has recognized that there was not even a negotiation with the Municipality, now we will send a communication to Poste Italiane where we will ask for the restoration of the service as per the sentence and an interlocutor meeting to talk about this. We will certainly never give up, however I can already say that against all expectations David has won against Goliath, a great victory for Serra Sant’Abbondio and for all the citizens of the internal areas, a thank you also to our lawyers, Paolo Tittarelli and Emanuele Torcoletti”.
