The Cagliari driver Giorgio Basoli is the new regional Karting champion in the Kz2 premier class. In the last round of the Coppa Italia Zona 9 Aci Sport, held at the Pista del Corallo in Alghero, the sixteen-year-old first signed the pole position with a time of 50″613, then won the pre-final and the final after setting the fastest lap and administered the benefit. And now, with the regional title on the board, Giorgio Basoli is already thinking about Val Vibrata, where on 21-23 June he will be at the start of the third round of the Italian Aci Sport Championship.

The Regional Championship

After a subdued start in the season opener of the Italian Cup zone 9, conditioned by a less than optimal feeling with the new tires imposed by the 2024 regulations and by a faulty spark plug which cost him a retirement in the final, Giorgio redeemed himself by running an excellent race in Sestu, finishing on the top step of the podium. A performance repeated eight days ago in Alghero, where not only did he demonstrate that he had refined the feeling and management of the tires, but also that he was able to coolly recover the two positions lost at the first corner of the final race, then easily won afterwards have accumulated a significant advantage.

The comment

“After the somewhat complicated first season of the season, things have changed and, both in Sestu and in Alghero in the last round, since qualifying I set a pace that was unapproachable by my rivals, a pace that earned me the victory and allowed me bring home the Kz2 regional champion title. It is a success that I care a lot about also because in 2023, as a rookie, despite having always been the fastest driver, I was unable to achieve it due to a series of unfortunate retirements. Thanks to Luca Giacchetto, owner of Jesolo-Technology-Kart, to Shardana Motor Sport and to my family, who follows me and supports me”.

On the Peninsula

Next weekend, Giorgio will compete in the third round of the Italian Aci Sport Championship, in Val Vibrata (Teramo), where a series of tests took place in recent days. In recent weeks, on the Apulian circuit of La Conca, Basoli had taken part in the Wsk Cup, in which he finished 10th in Final 1, and in the second round of the Italian Championship, completed with an 8th place overall and 3rd in the Under 18.
