Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement
of ’81. International Film Festival
It was attributed to the iconic American actress Sigourney Weaver (Alien,
Ghostbusters, Gorillas in the Mist, Avatar, The Master Gardener) the Lion
Gold Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 81st International Art Exhibition
Film Festival of the Venice Biennale (28 August – 7 September 2024).
The decision was taken by the Board of Directors of the Biennale, chaired by Pietrangelo
Buttafuoco, who adopted the proposal of the Director of the Exhibition,
Alberto Barbera.
“I am truly honored to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the Biennale
Venice – said Sigourney Weaver in accepting the proposal –
This award is a privilege that I share with all directors and collaborators
who I have worked with over the years. I proudly accept this
recognition, which also celebrates all those who have contributed to giving
life to these films.”
Director Alberto Barbera declared: “There are few rivals for an actress of the
caliber of Sigourney Weaver. With an important theatrical training, she has
conquered the general cinema audience with Alien, by Ridley Scott,
quickly becoming an emblematic figure of the 80s, during which
coined the image of an unprecedented heroine for the action genre,
capable of victoriously holding the comparison with the male models who are up to date
by that time they had dominated in epic and adventure cinema.

Biographical note
Sigourney Weaver is a three-time Academy Award-nominated and one-time Academy Award-winning actress.

Born and raised in New York, Sigourney Weaver graduated from Stanford
