Savita Russo qualified for the Olympics of Paris 2024 and so on Italy will have one more judoka at the Games, scheduled from July 26th to August 11th. The Italian managed to conquer the five-circle pass thanks to the continental quota in the weight category up to 63 kg.
This quota was reserved for twelve men and women athletes, but each country could benefit from only one: the Swede Marcus Nyman (90 kg) surpassed the score of his compatriot Ida Eriksson (70 kg), who thus lost her place and it made our standard bearer one of the first to be excluded. Subsequently, a disqualification for doping occurred, which automatically decreed the passage of the continental quota into the hands of Savita Russo.
The 19-year-old’s palmares is enviable, despite her young age: bronze at the Cadet World Championships in 2022, gold at the European Junior Championships in 2023, bronze at the European Championships in 2024. It will be her first appearance in the most important sporting event in the world, but she could already be an outsider considering her caliber technique. At this point the tricolor judo delegation will be made up of 12 elementseager to provide strong emotions on the tatami of the Champ-de-Mars Arena.
