New Big Panda, those references that bring us back to the historic “Pandino”

We had the opportunity to observe the new lines of Fiat Grande Panda. There are structured shapes and soft but, at the same time, decisive surfaces. All to highlight the robust wheel arches that give the compact electric a solid look. Many elements that bring back those square shapes, lost in the reinterpretations of the Panda that we have seen in the last (almost) twenty years.

The front sports a design truly unique and capable of expressing a distinctive personality. The progressive square mesh grille creates a dynamic and decisive graphic effect that extends from the glossy black grille on the sides to the headlights. A panel in the center of the bumper, in the lower part, emphasizes the “SUV” reference, but the headlights, composed of cubic shapes, recall the “eyes” of the historic Lingotto factory.

The daytime running lights also have direction indicators, thanks to the illumination of some cubes that appear as horizontal pixels arranged in a checkerboard pattern. From the side, the design of the Fiat Grande Panda brings to mind the robustness of the Panda from the 1980sThe wedge-shaped line of the body and passenger compartment is accentuated by the roof bars which shift the overall view upwards and towards the rear.

Just like a tribute to classic Panda 4×4the Fiat Grande Panda is presented with letters in bas-relief 3D printed on the doors, animated by these elements in the lower part of the side. The robust “C” pillar maintains the unmistakable inclination with respect to the vertical volume at the rear. The robust wheel arches make the rear end decidedly more daring, and everything is nicely emphasized by the arrangement of the rear window, the headlights and the skid plate.

Another tribute to the Panda original it is the bezel that presents the 3D letters “PANDA”which visually increases the volume of the vehicle. The 17-inch alloy wheels with an X design, which recalls those geometries of the 80s and at the same time constitute a futuristic touch.

In general, this is not a great “nostalgia operation” as happened with another Italian icon, the 500, but the Grande Panda recalls many elements of that compact revolution arrived in 1980. Even though the new version has five doors, unlike the three of the first Panda, the references to the original are quite evident, especially when thinking about the red version. The new Fiat Grande Panda should present itself as a practical and economical car. As for the interiors, however, we will have to wait, since they will be presented to the international press on July 11th.
