Moments of great fear at the Stuttgart Arena, the stadium in which the match, valid for Group A of Euro 2024, between Scotland and Hungary is being played.
These were minutes of real apprehension in Germany, home of these European Championships, for a violent clash that occurred inside the Scottish penalty area, around the 68th minute, which involved Barnabas Varga, striker of Ferencvaros and the Hungarian national team, who collided with goalkeeper Gunn and defender Ralston, receiving medical aid with the entire stadium holding their breath until they saw him emerge on a stretcher. Rescue was immediate, with the medical staff rushing onto the pitch and the players, present on the green pitch, surrounding Varga to prevent any images from being taken, suspecting he had fainted. For the record, a VAR check was also held for a potential penalty, which however was not detected.
The captain is fundamental Dominik Szoboszlaithe first to protect his partner with blankets, who literally ran in the direction of the rescuers who were carrying the stretcher onto the field, so as to speed up the rescue operations for Varga.
Furthermore, the images depicting the match winner of the challenge are splendid, Kevin Csoboth who, in the 100th minute of the match, scored the winning goal which gave the Hungarians hope of reaching the round of 16 of Euro 2024 as one of the four best third-placed teams. After the goal, the right wing of Ujpest FC he showed Varga’s shirt to the entire public, encouraged by captain Szoboszlai, as a sign of closeness to his teammate.
STABLE CONDITIONS – An update arrives, directly from a tweet from the Hungarian Football Federation: “Barnabás Varga’s condition is stable! The player is currently hospitalized in one of Stuttgart’s hospitals. We will inform you immediately if there is any news on his status.”
FACIAL FRACTURES AND SURGICAL INTERVENTION – A first sigh of relief, which was followed by a second statement from the Hungarian national team, reiterating the player’s stable condition, while underlining the significant damage sustained by Varga. “Several bones in his face were broken in the clash during the match and he also suffered a concussion” we read on the official channels of the Hungarian federation. The traumas reported by the attacker are such as to push the medical staff to seriously evaluate the option of surgery: “He will most likely undergo surgery”, continues the official note. Meanwhile, the player spent the night at the Stuttgart hospital. We expect news in the next few hours.
