The Sardinia Beach Rugby Cup 2024 continued its journey with the second stage at the Platamona beach on Saturday 22 June, organized by the Bulldogs of Sassari. The event saw the participation of four teams: the hosts Bulldog, the Trenicoterri from Capoterra, the Grifoni from Alghero and a mixed team from Oristano and some Bulldog players, known for the occasion as Al burro.
The atmosphere on the beach was electrifying, with fans turning out in droves to support their teams. The competition was intense, with exciting matches that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. The Grifoni of Amatori Rugby Alghero, fresh from third place in the first stage in Sinnai, faced the Bulldogs in a hard-fought match. Despite their efforts, the Griffins were defeated with a score of 5 to 3. The second match for the Griffins proved to be even tougher. The Trenicoterri of Capoterra dominated the match, winning with a clear 8 to 2.
The third match marked a turning point for the Griffins. With an exceptional performance, they triumphed against Al burro with an impressive 8 to 1. The final results saw the Trenicoterri from Capoterra as winners of the stage, followed by the Bulldogs from Sassari in second place and the Grifoni from Alghero in third place. Not only did the Grifoni maintain their third place from the first stage, but they also demonstrated remarkable resilience and team spirit, especially in their victory against Al burro
In addition to the main matches, the event saw the participation of youth teams, promoting rugby among the new generations. The awards ceremony celebrated not only the winners, but also the sporting spirit and participation of all the athletes.
The Sardinia Beach Rugby Cup 2024 will now move to Cagliari, where on 29 June the teams will compete for the third stage of the tournament. The Grifoni of Amatori Rugby Alghero are ready to fight to further improve their position.
