This is the headline in today’s edition of “La Repubblica”, which focuses on Palermo and the future of Matteo Brunori. As announced by sports director Morgan De Sanctis during the press conference, the Italian-Brazilian bomber is “at the centre of the project”. “But the truth is that the Rosanero captain is not leaving because he is not there at the moment
a concrete offer that satisfies the club, despite the fact that he has expressed his desire to move on and play his chances in Serie A”, writes the well-known newspaper.
Absolute star of the promotion to Serie B with Silvio Baldini at the helm, with twenty-nine goals between the regular season and the playoffs, a prolific and decisive bomber also in the cadet tournament with 34 goals in two seasons, plus three goals in the Italian Cup. Brunori has often inflated the opponent’s net, also growing on a technical-tactical level as the seasons have gone by. However, not always due to peculiar characteristics, he has managed to take on the leadership and specific weight inherent in the role of captain in a troubled and far too inconsistent year for the team. The relationship with a large part of the fans has noticeably deteriorated after the statements released by the player himself following the defeat in the playoff semi-final against Venezia. “How can you find the lost feeling with a part of the fans who had not digested the hot statements after the bad impression with Venezia by someone who had been an absolute idol in these three years? And that is, the fact that Brunori had spoken about the pressure and the difficulties of playing in a place like Palermo?”.
Brunori’s will has always been clear: to compete with Serie A. Palermo did not initially oppose vetoes, asking for money for a player who was redeemed from Juventus for 1.8 million euros and who is now valued at more than double, therefore no less than four. However, the only teams that have come out into the open at the moment are Lecce and Empoli, with Cagliari and Genoa being more out of the way. But no one seems willing to pay the sum requested by the pink club. Even half of Serie B has set its sights on the Palermo captain, from Sassuolo to Sampdoria, from Cremonese to Pisa. “But none of these clubs have the capital for a
investment of this magnitude and it is highly unlikely that Brunori will decide to leave at all costs to remain in Serie B anyway”.
For this reason, the number 9 will regularly show up for the training camp in Livigno.
