Good morning and welcome to LIVE textual LIVE of the online test of the 2024 Italian Road Cycling Championships. The Pre Semper Alfredo, a race dedicated to the late Alfredo Martini, will count as a race for the tricolor jersey. We will find out who will be Simone Velasco’s successor over the 228 km starting from Florence and arriving in Sesto Fiorentino.
Race now in its fourth edition which presents a fairly tough route with numerous ups and downs among the Florentine hills of Mugello. The first real climb will be that of Croci di Calenzano (2.3 km at 5.2% average gradient). The circuit to be repeated 4 times will instead offer the ascent of Via di Baroncoli (4.9 km at 4.4%) and several steep climbs, with the last ending 9 minutes from the finish.
The number one favorite of the day is Alberto Bettiol. The EF Education Easypost standard-bearer appeared in excellent form in the recent Tour of Switzerland, and is aiming with conviction for national success. All eyes are also on Andrea Bagioli (Lidl-Trek) and Filippo Baroncini (UAE Team Emirates). At Astana, in addition to the reigning champion Velasco, Lorenzo Fortunato and Christian Scaroni can well figure, while Alpecin-Deceunink focuses on Luca Vergallito and Nicola Conci. Among the possible outsiders Formolo and Cimolai (Movistar Team), Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and Puccio (INEOS Grenadiers).
