Rome, 8 June 2024 – Beyond 3 thousand Italian municipalities will be called to the polls Today, Saturday 8 June from 3pm to 11pm, e.g Sunday 9 Junefrom 7am to 11pm, to renew mayors and city councilsas well as to vote at Europeans.
The municipalities to vote
Specifically, local elections concern 3700 municipalities scattered throughout Italy. Among the cities voting for the renewal of mayor and city council are 29 provincial and six regional capitals, namely Bari, Cagliari, Campobasso, Florence, Perugia and Potenza. The other provincial capitals up for vote are Ascoli Piceno, Avellino, Bergamo, Biella, Caltanissetta, Campobasso, Cesena, Cremona, Ferrara, Forlì, Lecce, Livorno, Modena, Pavia, Pesaro, Pescara, Prato, Reggio Emilia, Rovigo, Sassari, Urbino, Verbania, Vercelli and Vibo Valentia.

Municipalities under 15 thousand inhabitants
In municipalities under 15 thousand inhabitants split voting is not possible: the election is in a single round and whoever gets it wins more preferences. One or two preferences can be expressed from the list linked to the candidate for mayor, but in the case of two preferences, they must be respected gender equality (so you can’t vote man/man or woman/woman) penalty the cancellation of the second.

The ballot
The possible ballot interests the municipalities in voting with population exceeding 15 thousand inhabitants and it will take place dSunday 23rd and Monday 24th June (in that case the polling stations will be open from 7am to 11pm on Sunday and from 7am to 3pm on Monday). The run-off round, however, will not concern the municipalities that vote in Friuli Venezia Giuliabecause all with a population of less than 15 thousand inhabitants.
