Slaps, kicks, bites, threats and daily violence towards his partner, 25 years younger, for educational purposes: a 74 year old was arrested on Saturday 29 June following the testimonies and investigations of the police who, despite many attempts to escape both the truth and justice, brought the man to justice. The first report arrived in June, when some residents of the couple’s area had requested the intervention of the police when they noticed a woman leaving her home and rushing into the street, visibly terrified by something.

Already warned

It was her partner, a pensioner twenty-five years older than her, who made her run away, threatening her with a knife when she had tried to use the phone to ask for help, probably after the umpteenth outburst of anger from her partner. In the following days, when the Flying Squad had started the necessary investigations on behalf of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the man had been notified of a warning from the Police Commissioner, the first phone call arrived: the woman, in a low voice, asked the policeman to stop all measures against her partner, explaining how, despite the facts, she was still very much in love with him. It was the tone of voice that aroused suspicion in the officer, who had first collected her testimony: the woman was shocked, in tears and with a trembling voice, but above all he tried to speak softly and this was enough to make the police understand that what seemed like an afterthought was actually a real request for a car.

The police raid

At that point, while the policeman remained on the phone with the woman to assure her that nothing serious would happen to her from that point on, the officers went to the couple’s home: here they found her with obvious trauma to the side and several bruises, confirming the hypothesis that just before the phone call the man had decided to beat her again. After helping the victim, who was immediately taken at Sant’Antonio Hospital with a prognosis of twenty days, the agents first subjected the aggressor to a pre-cautionary measure of custody in prison and then, after the arrest was validated, they took him to the Padua District Prison.
