The screen printing, graphic design and graphic arts workshop, Bonjoure, in Rennes, is 4 years old. All of the fifteen artists who make it up are offering to celebrate the event. Open days and introductory screen printing workshops are organized. Three questions for Lucie QZN, graphic designer and screen printer of the Bonjoure association.
What brought you to the Bonjoure workshop?
I have been here since its creation in 2019. With other screen printing artists, we wanted to have a space to share materials and have a place to offer events and initiations around graphic arts. We carries out orders for associations, companies, etc. This can be business cards, t-shirts or posters. We also host artists in residence and we offer a space for exhibitions.
What is screen printing?
This is a very old printing technique, which comes from Asia and means “drawing with silk”. The first step is to make a typon, it is a transparency on which the image that we want to reproduce has been drawn or printed in black. Subsequently, we apply a photosensitive varnish that reacts to light on a silk canvas stretched on a frame. The magic happens with the exposure machine. We place the typon on the canvas, which, exposed to the light, will allow the visible parts to be fixed in the mesh. The rest will go to water to reveal the drawing. The frame is ready, It can be used on any flat surface, such as glass, wood or fabric. Simply apply paint and scrape.
Can we try it?
Yes, this Thursday and until Saturday, July 6, we are organizing a green class. A participatory event, free or at a free price. We offer an introduction to screen printing but also a sandwich competition, concerts… What is important to us is to open the doors of our garden, that it is a moment of joy and sharing.
