Beyond the controversy over the appointment of the prefect of Modena Camporota as councilor, with the formation of his council Mezzetti keeps the promises of a clear discontinuity with Muzzarelli’s decade and shows all his intolerance (mindful of the treatment that the ‘Firm’ gave him reserved a couple of decades ago for Modena) primarily towards the political arrogance of the Democratic Party. There are three elements that break most with the past: the exclusion of Modena Civica (a leg on which Muzzarelli had clearly relied), the appointment of Carla Ferrari to urban planning (a profile that expresses ideas opposed to the former mayor in the relationship with the world of construction workers) and the promotion of Vittorio Molinari for the Greens (a man in line with Ferrari’s urban planning and zero-balance ideas).
Mezzetti left the Democratic Party fighting over the race for the seat (just as it is still fighting over the race for the presidency of the City Council), he imposed two trusted women for the important departments (Camporota and Ferrari herself), he took in addition the anti-PD par excellence (Zanca) and limited curial interference by taking away Maletti’s welfare.
A freedom that gives hope for the next five years, especially if Muzzarelli (in tandem with Ludovica Ferrari) does not manage to land in the Region as a councilor. A goal to which the man from Fanano has thrown himself heart and soul.
The main limits to Mezzetti’s finally autonomous work – in addition to Venturelli imposed at all costs by the Dems – are Guerzoni (Muzzarelli’s arm in the council) and Bortolamasi (Bonaccini’s hand in the council), but with their respective mentors weakened and busy elsewhere (Europe and perhaps Region) even ‘Giulio’ and ‘Andrea’ will have little impact. At least that’s what the mayor and his chief of staff hope, a Solomite who couldn’t wait to leave his post at the helm of the quarrelsome and gluttonous Democratic Party in which, due to his ways, attitude and culture, he has always appeared as a foreign body.
