Two personal bests but no medals from the Aosta Valley athletes at the Italian Athletics Championships last weekend in La Spezia.

The spotlights of the Rossoneri were mainly focused on Eleonora Marchinglooking to redeem a season with little satisfaction and a faint hope of earning a place at the Paris Olympics in the 400 hurdles, after having participated in those of Tokyo three years ago. Hopes that were dashed in the final at the 10th hurdle on which the Aosta Valley athlete of the Carabinieri was stumbledretiring when he was still out of the fight for the podium. In the heat Marchiando had passed the round in 58”11.

Jean-Marie Robbin (Atl. Biotekna) in the third heat of the 400m hurdles was the first of the three hurdlers from the Aosta Valley to run, finishing third in 51″13 and destroying the personal best which dates back to 2017 (51”62). In the final he finished in seventh position with a time of 52”23. Robbin also ran the 4X400 relay with the Atletica Biotekna team as the second runner together with Alessandro Franceschini, Giacomo Zampese and Pietro Pivotto, coming close to a medal with a time of 3’13”16 which allowed the team to rank fourth.

Joao Carlos Pina Barros (Athletic club 96 Alperia) e Simone Bottan (CUS Torino) ran the fourth heat of the 400Hs. Excellent start for Pina Barros, who finished the qualification in fourth position in 52″09 (making her Seasonal record), but not reaching the final, as did Bottan, who ran in 54″14 and finished sixth. Pina Barros was also the first runner of the 4×400 m of the Athletic club 96 Alperia together with Giovanni Santomaso, Farias Zin and Abdessalam Machmach. Excellent first fraction for the athlete from Valle d’Aosta who launches her teammate by changing in first position, but then the Alperia team slips to tenth position with a time of 3’16”07.

Eleonora Foudraz (Atl. Sandro Calvesi) runs the 400 m from the first lane and finishes the race in 54″55, taking 5th place in the heat (a time that does not allow her to access the final) and 18th in the total ranking.
