Elections e threats a Lecce: the solidarity of vescovo of Lecce, Monsignor Michele Seccia to the Honorable Claudio Stefanazzi and to the Councilor Alessandro Delli Noci. “There are no words to comment on the despicable news story that in these days – as if the poison of the electoral campaign for the election of the mayor of Lecce just concluded were not enough – has further disturbed the daily life of the people of Lecce”, is the comment of the Bishop of Lecce.
«But indignation is not enough, mine is a clear condemnation of the vile act committed against the two political exponents. Working together for the common good, as I reiterated the other day when I addressed my good wishes to the new mayor of the city, is a noble choice that does not allow pauses and above all cannot be the object of insults, abuse, intimidation and even less of threats, whether veiled or overt – adds Seccia – While I confirm my esteem, my personal closeness and the solidarity of the entire diocesan community towards Stefanazzi and Delli Noci, I hope very much that the investigators, in the exercise of their silent and praiseworthy service, trace the perpetrators of this criminal act as soon as possible so that those who committed it are punished according to what the rules of healthy coexistence prescribe”.
«To the winners and the vanquished, to the elected and the non-elected, I ask for an act of courage: bury the axes of the ‘electoral battle’ and roll up your sleeves of dialectical confrontation so that the civic representation assigned by the democratic vote to both the members of the majority and those of the opposition, who are presumed to be the ‘best’ among us, become an instrument of unity and contribute to the common good – concludes the bishop – I wish all the citizens of Lecce better days so that social peace returns to being the leitmotif of the life of the civil community in continuous search for a fruitful dialogue that can only generate fruits of development and well-being for all, especially for those most in need”.
