Autonomy, Confindustria Vicenza stands with the Veneto Region

Autonomy, Confindustria Vicenza stands with the Veneto Region
Autonomy, Confindustria Vicenza stands with the Veneto Region

We support the commitment of the President of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia in requesting, immediately, an operational discussion to implement what is foreseen (and published in the Official Journal) by the differentiated autonomy. We are talking about an expected step, but also very delicate, which requires rational and meticulous work, which cannot be done in five minutes and therefore: the sooner we start, the better.

Among the 9 subjects not subject to LEP, there are two in particular that are strategic and decisive for the defense of work in Veneto. I am talking about “International and EU relations of the Region” and “Foreign trade” of which Vicenza, third province for total exports and first for exports per capita in Italy, represents a national champion, not only in Veneto.

We have been saying it for too long now: the Made in Italy industry, which must deal with suppliers, customers and competitors from all over the world, suffers from the blindly ideological and self-destructive regulation of European and international bodies. The recent EU regulations have been implemented without the necessary consideration for their feasibility and sustainability. It is no coincidence that, on this issue, during elections, the EU itself has started to backtrack a bit. But it has also decided not to decide. It is clear that we must seek alternative paths and more adequate times to reduce, for example, CO2 emissions in a sustainable way. Paths that the Italian and European industry are certainly capable of finding.

And then there is the distorted application of sanctions that is needlessly penalizing our exports. Non-dual-use products, which have no connection, not even indirectly, with the war market, are blocked, causing significant damage to our companies. This situation requires immediate intervention to ensure that sanctions are applied in a rational and targeted manner, avoiding absurd situations for Italian civilian industries, thus favoring Asian manufacturing and dispersing the know-how and added value of European manufacturing.

Not to mention the import duties that penalize the competitiveness of our pocket-sized multinationals (and not only), such as the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism).

I do not deny that there are critical aspects. It is clear that it is not the same thing to deal with the EU, or with other supranational bodies, such as Italy or Veneto. But I do not intend this autonomy as a division of forces, but rather as their multiplication. Also because the needs of Veneto are different from those of Liguria, which are different from those of Abruzzo and different from those of Sicily.

So it is good that it is expected that complex and macroeconomic matters such as these are also exercised, directly, on the territories, to preserve their prerogatives. Equally important is that everything is carried out in synergy with the broader national strategy which, obviously, has a different weight.

We are here on this important and decisive journey, alongside the Region and President Zaia.”
