Who is Kosta Runjaic? Venetian Messenger he asked it to Tomasz Kaczmarekhis assistant for 20 months at Pogon, between January 2020 and August 2021. “He adapts to the players available, knows how to work with young people and is aware that results are important”, this, in a few words, is his first portrait. More specifically, “Kosta has a very clear vision of what he wants, how the team must be organised, how it must play and what the hierarchies are within it. He is able to analyse the situation and the moment that clubs and teams are going through very well and adapts his methods to them. He creates the backbone of the team and supports the important players, those who lead the group with him. He makes them responsible for ensuring that the group is well managed. For him, this is a fundamental aspect and he is able to do it quickly, because he knows how to communicate. He is also an intelligent person and knows how to surround himself with people who complement each other”.
Runjaic loves the beautiful game, “But he recognizes the level of the group he leads and adapts. In Szczecin in the last two years the technical value of the players has risen, so Pogon was beautiful to watch. The foundation for him is represented by the defensive phase. In training I work a lot on this aspect, on how to defend the penalty area, on the communication between the goalkeeper and the defenders”.
He also reassures that “Kosta finds the way of playing that suits the team and the best players. The most significant example is given by the fact that at Pogon he used a 4-man defense, at Legia a 3-man defense. He simply looks for the right solutions for who he is facing”.
