Maximum attention is paid by the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Catania to the activities of preventing and combating gender violence, also through the monitoring network made up of soldiers trained and specialized in the delicate matter.
In this context, the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Unit of Catania arrested a 38-year-old local criminal in the “San Giorgio” district for the crimes of mistreatment of family members and extortion.
In particular, it was the afternoon when the Catania Operations Center received a request for help from a man living in the San Giorgio district, who told the operators that he had just been attacked by his son, who was under house arrest, for a robbery. , in the family home. Immediate sending of one gazelle of the force which, already employed in a patrol service in that very neighborhood, reached his home in a few minutes.
The crew found the man in the street, clearly agitated and shaken by what had happened, waving his arms to attract the attention of the officers and inviting them to follow him. The Carabinieri reassured him and followed him into the house where they surprised his 38-year-old son who was attacking his mother and sister with kicks and punches. At the sight of the officers, the young man moved away from the two women and rushed into the kitchen, where he grabbed a knife and began threatening his father that he would pay for having called the Carabinieri. The latter, however, before he could approach his relatives, stopped him and disarmed him, then secured him. After making sure that those present did not require medical attention, the officers took the 38-year-old to the barracks, where they were joined by the entire family unit who filed a complaint.
From the relatives’ story it emerged that the young man, a drug addict, was constantly asking his parents for money and that day he had also tried to steal his mother’s payment card, who, however, had managed to take it from him.
Having therefore understood that he would not have been able to buy the drugs that day, the man had gone into a rage, breaking everything he had at hand, until he threw himself at his mother and sister. Only the father’s phone call to 112 and the arrival of the patrol put an end to those moments of panic.
The attacker was arrested and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, which validated the arrest and ordered the precautionary custody measure in the Catania Piazza Lanza prison.
