Pesaro, Capital of Culture Shares the Scepter with 50 Municipalities

A promotional route created in 2018 by Confcommercio Marche Nord to reveal the lesser-known corners of the province. Twenty-five locations, starting from Urbino where the pure beauty of the panoramas meets the perfection of Raphael’s paintings kept in Palazzo Ducale, a jewel of Italian Renaissance architecture. Pesaro, the protagonist of the year, shares its scepter with the 50 municipalities of the province, which every week, from now until the end of 2024, will be cultural capitals for a week in their turn.

From the night of San Lorenzo to the Fano of the Caesars

Pesaro, a city of culture, but also a seaside city, with over 7 km of beaches stretching between Baia Flaminia, Ponente and Levante, all reachable by bike: because this is one of the most cycle-friendly cities in Italy.

And right on the sea, Pesaro offers tourists and its inhabitants, a night of San Lorenzo, in which thousands of flames lit on the beach and on the water, compete with shooting stars. An event of August 10, now in its tenth edition.

The Adriatic meets Beauty also in Fano, the ancient Fanum Fortunae of the Romans, hub of the Via Flaminia and ancient navy of the Adriatic. Even in this seaside city, holidays are combined with art, since Fano boasts a delightful historic center, churches such as Santa Maria Nuova, with works by Perugino inside, and a rich Civic Museum. Beautiful El Gugul, the characteristic fishermen’s neighborhood, the Molo dei trabucchi and the beaches of Torrette and Sassonia, which owes its name to the expanse of pebbles, perfectly equipped even for the little ones. Among the many events, noteworthy is the Fano dei Cesari (11-14 July) re-enactment of the Roman origins of the city, and the Fano jazz by the sea (20-28 July). In the name of its indissoluble bond with the Adriatic, Fano also celebrates this year the Festa del Mare, from 3 to 4 August, in honor of its fishermen and its seafaring DNA. Among the seaside destinations proposed by the Itinerary of Confcommercio Marche Nord is also Mondolfo, the most beautiful village in Italy, whose seaside hamlet, Marotta, is today a charming tourist resort. So charming that it inspired Enrico Ruggeri to write the song “Il mare d’inverno”. With 10 km of uninterrupted beaches, well divided between equipped and free, with sloping seabeds, ideal even for inexperienced swimmers, Marotta is an oasis of tranquility. Where you can relax by pedaling along the cycle path of the characteristic Lungomare dei Mosaici. Kilometers of images born from the tiles placed by residents and tourists to color this part of the coast. You can also listen to the stories of the old sailors of the place, for example at the El Croc club. Don’t miss the Festa della Tratta, from July 19 to 21, which commemorates the particular type of fishing.
