Eastern Sicily in the global panorama of ports – BlogSicilia

“Today is a beautiful day, three new boats with latest generation technical characteristics have been added to the fleet of the Rimorchiatori Mediterranei company of the MSC group serving the safety and operation of the ports”. This was said by Marina Noè, president of Assoporto Augusta who participated this morning in the blessing and launching ceremony of three new tugboats: “it is a happy moment for the ports of our geographical area, there is a new excitement that we had forgotten. Finally, important choices are being made both in terms of public and private investments and this can only bring wealth and development to our entire territory which for too long has suffered from stagnation and periodic crises in the main sector, petrochemicals”.

A melting pot of large and small initiatives, but also of important political choices such as the one made by the city of Syracuse, the last after Pozzallo, to enter the territorial perimeter of the ADSP of the eastern Sicilian sea and for this we must applaud President Di Sarcina and to the politicians who have finally understood the importance of entering a port system that also allows Syracuse to participate in the construction of an interesting hub for logistics, industry and the tourism and cruise sector, effectively strengthening this area of Sicily in the global panorama of ports.

Every new vessel that is launched represents an economy that is set in motion starting from the seafarers who will make up the crews, many young people are preparing to enter the world of work and we need to give them the appropriate tools. For this reason, a few weeks ago Assoporto Augusta intervened with the mayor Giuseppe Di Mare, with the councilor for the Port Tania Patania and with the president of the ADSP Di Sarcina to ask for any useful action in order to define a training course for professions linked to our sector, “the sea”.

“We thank the mayor and president Di Sarcina for their willingness to work and – continues Noè – for having started discussions with training institutions that can represent for many young people looking for a job the opportunity to train, as was done fifty years ago with the Ciapi of Syracuse, which for a very long time represented for the entrepreneurial fabric of Syracuse, and not only, the only pool from which to draw to hire the personnel necessary for the business world. The training of professions must be treated with responsibility and determination, having a vision of what is happening today and what will happen in the coming years.

Entrepreneurs at all levels and for every type of profession have been sounding the alarm for some time now, specialized personnel can no longer be found and businesses, if they continue like this, will be forced to close, let’s avoid these also becoming issues to be discussed at crisis tables .

“As much as we would like to thank the general director of the ASP Caltagirone for having obtained that the training courses for seafarers can be carried out in Syracuse by the ASP. An effort must still be made, organizing at the Muscatello hospital in Augusta the service relating to the biannual visits that seafarers are required to make, very often forced to travel around the entire province, or even to go to Catania to take the tests necessary to obtain the certification. It is not about impossible works, but about better organizing what is already present” – concludes Noè who assures that the operators of Assoporto Augusta will continue to carry out their role as development ambassadors and will be alongside those who work towards the solution of the problems and planning opportunities.
