L’AQUILA – Via XX Settembre reopens to traffic, with two-way traffic. The temporary traffic light will be removed starting next Monday.

The mayor of L’Aquila announced the news, Pierluigi Biondithe councilor for public works, Vito Colonnaand the councilor for municipal police and road safety, Laura Cucchiarella. “Ahead of the scheduled completion date of the works, on Monday the temporary traffic light will be removed installed in recent months and two-way traffic will return to Via XX Settembre. The executing company is currently busy installing the guardrail barriers, necessary to re-establish the safety conditions that will allow, after the construction of the retaining wall supports, the reopening in complete safety of the important city artery”. The work, which cost more than 500 thousand euros, initially consisted of the construction of a pile with steel and concrete micropiles and, subsequently, excavations were carried out to build the foundation beam and the kerbs. The reinforcements were then prepared and the concrete was poured. The final phase involved the restoration of the road surface, the reconstruction of the collapsed portion of the wall, the construction of the underground services for the new public lighting, the signage and the installation of the barriers. The road can then be reopened since the final work will be carried out from the underlying Via Borgo Rivera.
“We thank the citizens for their patience with traffic disruptions, the municipal technicians involved in carrying out the interventions, and the company that carried out the works, not only for the great professionalism demonstrated, but also for the return of the important road artery ahead of the end of the works which was scheduled for July 17th. We invite those who will travel along Via XX Settembre on Monday – conclude Biondi, Colonna and Cucchiarella – to pay attention to the workers who will be employed in the removal of the traffic light system”.
