The Liberal Party of Taranto once again denounces the state of abandonment of the fountains of our city. On Sunday, July 1st, cruise passengers who landed in Taranto had to witness a sad spectacle: all the city fountains, except the one in Piazza Maria Immacolata, were turned off.

Even on the morning of Monday, June 1st, a cruise ship was at anchor and the tourists who disembarked were forced to see the same desolate scene as on Sunday. While the municipal administration continues to rejoice for having brought cruises to Taranto and for the choice to focus on tourism as a driver of economic development, we cannot ignore the serious state of neglect in which our urban infrastructures find themselves. The fountains, elements of decoration and symbols of welcome, represent an important part of the image of the city, and their lack of maintenance is a sign of disinterest and abandonment.

The Liberal Party of Taranto asks the municipal administration, and in particular the councilor Murgia, always very active on social media but decidedly less in the direction where he holds the delegation, a concrete and rapid commitment for the restoration and maintenance of the city fountains.

Quality tourism cannot exist without a well-kept and welcoming city. We invite all citizens to join our request for a Taranto that can truly shine in the eyes of its visitors. Thus in a note Mirko Maiorino, city secretary of the Italian Liberal Party.
