The perpetrators who attacked 5 on the evening of 7 June have been identified by the Carabinieri of Viareggio
minors near the Lido di Camaiore pier.
The victims, attacked by a group of peers for no apparent reason, had been hit with
kicks, punches and belts. The attack was repeated in similar ways on 11 June in Viareggio
to the detriment of a boy from Lucca forced to resort to 118 treatment.
The investigations have so far made it possible to identify 3 attackers, all minors in whose
Daspo Urbano’s request was also triggered. The result achieved is only the last one, in
order of time, of a long series of activities of the Viareggio Army which, in collaboration with the Police
of State, Guardia di Finanza and Municipal Police, led to the referral of numerous subjects
including minors, for assaults, thefts, damage and threats.
The extraordinary service of the Carabinieri, aimed at preventing and combating the phenomenon of
assaults by minors, which began in the early afternoon yesterday and ended late in the evening,
saw the use of 10 car radios, 4 motor vehicles, 30 Carabinieri – in uniform and in civilian clothes –
dog units, all coordinated by the Viareggio Company’s Operations Centre.
The checks and searches carried out allowed the seizure of over 100g of substance
amazing in the area of the western pine forest while carrying out, at the same time, a massive series of
checks on the entire seafront with over people, 80 cars and 16 motorbikes checked, 160 people
identified, of which approximately 40 are inside public establishments and in the main meeting places
youth.
The military, based on the complaints presented at the Carabinieri Stations by the victims of the 5
attacks that have occurred in Viareggio since the beginning of the year, have controlled the areas in particular
adjacent to the clock tower, the “Flora” and “Rossella” bathing establishments, the Varignano district,
where they subjected cars, scooters and passers-by to checks.
The military’s attention was mainly focused on groups of minors in the area included
between Piazza Inigo Campioni, Piazza Mazzini and Viale Risorgimento, the scene of some attacks in the
last months.
The controls of the Viareggio Police Force will continue throughout the summer season also with the
support of reinforcement personnel, over 25 carabinieri including a team from the Company
Operational Intervention of Florence, which will arrive in Versilia from July 1st as part of the recovery plan
security coordinated by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, chaired by
Prefect of Lucca.
