Certa Stampa – REGIONAL LAW ON THE END OF LIFE: TOMORROW THE VOTE IN ABRUZZO

The Regional Council has been convened for tomorrow, Wednesday 26 June at 11 am, to deliberate on the proposed regional law of popular initiative on assisted suicide. The law was deposited in our region as part of the national “Liberi Subito” campaign promoted by the Luca Coscioni Association, with the support of over eight thousand signatures. Before coming to the vote, the law was subjected to scrutiny by the Regional Guarantee Board, which had established its admissibility with respect to the Constitution and the Statute. Subsequently, the Health Commission of the Regional Council began to carry out a cycle of hearings, the first of which involved Riccardo Varveri and Gianluca Di Marzio as promoters, with the intention of hearing the representatives of the Luca Coscioni Association as well as the doctors and patients in the regional territory. The cycle of hearings was abruptly interrupted because the terms available to the Regional Council having expired, the proposal was automatically included as the first item on the agenda of the Council itself. As Promoters we hope that the Council will be able to discuss and debate the merits by deciding to refer the proposal to the Commission as agreed during the hearings, so that there is the possibility to resolve the doubts that emerged in the debate, before returning to Council for a final decision as soon as possible.
