SIENA. The University for Foreigners of Siena is organizing the fifth edition of the “Language and Sport” Summer School. The Summer School, which will take place from 22 to 24 July in mixed mode (in person and remotely), is aimed at scholars, students, athletes, sports operators, linguistic-cultural mediators and teachers of all levels, in particular teachers of languages and physical education, and to those interested in the topics of language teaching and social inclusion through sport.
The course aims to describe the macroforms of contact between idioms in the sporting context. From this perspective, a path will be proposed capable of associating sporting activities with sociolinguistic and linguistic education theories, demonstrating their applicative value in supporting linguistic-educational programming actions and cultural development of the territory. Students will be able to develop knowledge through plurilingual and intercultural linguistic education linked to physical and sporting activities in schools and/or sports clubs. Thanks to the theoretical and practical tools that will be provided during the course, participants will have the opportunity to explore and experiment with a new learning/teaching context, the sporting one, as well as new motivations for studying languages, new linguistic needs and playful and stimulating teaching methodologies for sports-learners.
The topics addressed will concern the linguistic history of sport, Italian and English in sport, linguistic policies in sports clubs and institutions, playful linguistic education, CLIL and physical education, TBLT for language teaching with the sport, Italian in the world with sport, teaching Italian for sport with digital tools, planning educational activities and teaching texts in sporting contexts. The topics will be explored in depth through laboratory and practical activities in the gym or on the pitch.
