He put the car into gear and hit the commander of the Carabinieri of Castrocaro, lieutenant Daniele Bongrazio, with his car, after having resisted a check resulting from a traffic dispute. A 58-year-old man from Castrocare, already known to the police, was arrested by the men of the Radiomobile Section of the Forlì Company on charges of resisting a public official. But it cannot be ruled out that the charge could turn into attempted murder. The episode, reported by the “Corriere Romagna” in Monday’s edition, and which could have had much more serious consequences, took place on Saturday evening, around 9.30pm.

The Carabinieri of Castrocaro, engaged in patrolling the area with Lieutenant Bongrazio, intervened in a traffic dispute, which was taking place in via Matteotti, in the heart of the spa town. According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, the 58-year-old became further agitated at the sight of the soldiers, reacting badly to the identification. Upon refusing to show the documents, the man was warned of the risk of incurring a criminal complaint to the judiciary.
The investment and the escape
The individual, instead of showing his identity card, got back into the car, started the engine, put it into gear and literally ran over the unfortunate lieutenant, and then disappeared without providing assistance. The alarm was immediately given to the other patrols engaged in the usual control activity of the territory. The first to intercept the fugitive was a “gazelle” from the Radiomobile Section, which in a few minutes moved to Castrocaro, arresting the 58-year-old on charges of “resisting a public official”. The man was loaded aboard the 112 car for subsequent interrogation at the provincial command in Corso Mazzini.
The conditions of the policeman
Lieutenant Bongrazio, taken by surprise by the 58-year-old’s gesture, was thrown onto the asphalt, where he hit his head violently. Transported to the emergency room of the “Morgagni-Pierantoni” hospital, he was hospitalized for the head trauma he suffered, as well as the broken bone in his elbow. The initial prognosis drawn up by doctors is at least 20 days, relating to the elbow fracture. In the next few hours the soldier, still under observation on Monday morning, will be subjected to a CT scan to clarify the evolution of the trauma. Subsequently the doctors will evaluate the possible discharge, which could take place on Tuesday.
The investigations
In the meantime, the investigations continue by the Carabinieri, who have acquired the stories of some witnesses who witnessed the episode. The 58-year-old could in fact be charged with “attempted murder”. The immediate trial is scheduled for Monday morning in court.
