The Timpazzo landfill could soon become one of the temporary destinations for waste so far disposed of in Lentini due to the interruption of mechanical biological treatment activities. A rather significant alarm bell considering the possible amount of waste that would overload the Impianti Srr system. The plant in the Coda Volpe district of Lentini is set up to guarantee the delivery of waste from around 200 Sicilian municipalities, the indefinite suspension of which will cause significant repercussions on the total waste management in eastern Sicily. Two provisions determined the suspension of the activities, one from the investigating judge of Catania and the other from the regional department with which the authorization is denied in view of the definition of the requests for verification for the environmental impact assessment, currently on pause for the absence of the assessment of the lack of health, environmental and cultural risks of the metropolitan city and of the ARPA. The definitive temporary decision has not yet been made official, but the Gela plants certainly already seem to be on the heaviest scale, together with those of Enna and Siciliana.
