Rugby Sound Festival between walls of guitars, in Legnano the electric charge of Placebo

LEGNANO – Few words and many walls of guitars per i Placebo in yesterday’s concert, Monday July 1st, at Rugby Sound Festival Legnano. This did not, however, mean a detached attitude on the part of Brian Molko e Stefan Olsdal – on stage with Matthew Lunn (drums), Bill Lloyd (bass), Nick Gavrilovic and Angela Chan (keyboards) – who before leading the many people who had gathered for the British band into chants and handclaps in rhythm – repeatedly requested, through signs and vocal announcements, to refrain from filming with cell phonesso as to have a more exciting collective experience.

Entrance on stage with the riffs of “Taste in men”

The energetic one opened the show alternative rock, with punk and emo nuances, by the Turin-based band Peaks! between the call to defend the environment and the commitment to raise awareness about those affected by depressive disorders. The right choice as “stage animals” to prepare, with pieces like “Heatwaves”, “Blackout” e “When the lights fade out”the audience in which they stood out above all t-shirt di Ramones e Joy Division upon the arrival of Placebo, which occurred a quarter of an hour after 9pm and was introduced by the dark vortex of the riffs of “Taste in men”.

From the soundtrack of “Cruel Intentions”

The clapping of the spectators’ hands in rhythm replaced and overpowered the drums on almost the entire stage. “Scene of the crime” and tearing out the first words, pronounced in an Italian without inflections – «grazie, buonasera» – from the leader of the «european band». The electric attack inaugurated by “Bionic” and continued with a “Dry your eyes” from the changed text – «fuck governments, fuck your killing» – and underlined by a display of the middle finger, it then exploded with the audience dancing on “Every me every you”dancefloor-filling single featured in the film “Cruel Intentions”.

Olsdal on the piano and pogo under the stage

“Thank you, this one is for you,” Molko added after “Sad white reggae”giving the indie rock of “Try better next time”: to counterbalance it the entrance of a white piano on stagewith Olsdal promptly at the keys for “Too many friends”. Among the theatrical movements of “Went missing”the rock’n’roll shot of “For what is worth” and numerous guitar changes were made “A song to say goodbye”concluded with the audience’s chorus, unleashing its vast applause, immediately followed by the pogo that broke out under the stage for “The bitter end”.

The last remaining protagonist

After an hour of uninterrupted charging with your head down the early classic “Nancy Boy” marked the release of the group around 10.30pm. To return shortly thereafter for the final triptych “Infra-red”, “Running up that hill” e “Without you I’m nothing”but above all for the farewell ritual which saw the two founders of Placebo, accompanied by the bassist, clinging to the amplifiers and intent on manipulating them to create as many reverbs, feedback and distortions as possible. On stage the one and only true protagonist, a little devil guitar nerve center of the wall of sound.
