After a long period of preparation, the time has finally come for the best tennis players to step onto the grass courts of Wimbledon for the third Grand Slam of the year. The reigning Spanish men’s champion and the Italian world number 1 will be among the protagonists of the first day

21:57 – Only one match did not survive the day and Ben Shelton (21) – the 14th seed – is in a real battle with qualifier Mattia Bellucci (23). The American is down two sets to one when the players return tomorrow to wrap up their first-round encounter.

21:52 – Jannik Sinner (22) suffered a setback in the fourth set, but managed to recover and beat Yannick Hanfmann (32) 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in three hours.

Meanwhile, two Czech tennis players had mixed fortunes: Paula Badosa (26) defeated former French Open finalist Karolina Muchova (27) 6-3, 6-2. Elsewhere, Brenda Fruhvirtova (17) prevailed, defeating 24th seed and 2024 French Open semi-finalist Mirra Andreeva (16) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Linda Noskova (26) also advanced.

21:05 – A carefree start to the campaign for Coco Gauff (20), who advances to the second round thanks to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over American Caroline Dolehide (25).

The other seeds are Tallon Griekspoor (27) and Emma Navarro (23).

20:11 – Another five-set epic ended with 23rd seed Alexander Bublik (27) defeating Jakub Mensik (18) with a stunning comeback 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Currently in action are world number one Jannik Sinner (22) and second seed Coco Gauff (20), both in control of their first-round matches.

19.30 – Lorenzo Sonego has qualified for the second round of the Wimbledon tournament, beating the Argentine Mariano Navone, ATP no. 32, in three sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.

19:17 – A lot of five-sets in the men’s draw on the outside courts, which gave viewers a dramatic atmosphere on the first day. Ugo Humbert (26) – world number 16 – survived one of his own, beating Alexander Shevchenko (23) 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-7(3), 6-1.

No problems for British wildcard and former US Open champion Emma Raducanu (21), who defeated lucky loser Renata Zarazua (26) 7-6(0), 6-3.

18:32 – Last year’s fourth-seeded finalist Madison Keys (29) beat Martina Trevisan (30) 6-4, 7-6(4) to reach the second round, where the 12th-seeded American will face China’s Yafan Wang (30).

Meanwhile, the second Grand Slam champion withdrew with a shoulder injury in the women’s draw on the first day of the tournament.

Victoria Azarenka (34), winner of the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013, was supposed to face Sloane Stephens (31), but has now withdrawn.

18:11 – Two of the tournament’s veterans, Gael Monfils (37) and Stan Wawrinka (39), both advanced to the next round thanks to victories over Adrian Mannarino (36) and Charles Broom (26).

17:03 – Defending men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz (21) advanced to the second round after a victory over Mark Lajal (21) on Centre Court. The third seed defeated the Estonian qualifier 7-6, 7-5, 6-2.

16:50 – Matteo Berrettini is the second Italian to get past the first round of the Wimbledon tournament, the third slam of the season starting today in London, after Fabio Fognini. The Roman won in four sets over the Hungarian Martin Fucsovics, with a score of 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

15:35 – A battle between Matteo Arnaldi and Frances Tiafoe. The American wins in the fifth set, winning the match in a comeback with a score of 6-7 2-6 6-1 6-3 6-3

15:33 – Women’s 14th seed Daria Kasatkina (27), who comes to Wimbledon in good form after winning the title in Eastbourne, reached the second round after defeating Shuai Zhang (35) 6-3, 6-0.

2.30pm – Men’s eighth seed Casper Ruud (25) advanced to the second round after avoiding a potential banana skin by beating Alex Bolt (31) 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. Bolt has been playing on grass since March in preparation for Wimbledon.

Nicolas Jarry (28), on the other hand, was defeated by Denis Shapovalov (25) 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. In the men’s field, Borna Coric (27) and Jan-Lennard Struff (34) advanced.

14:27 – Winning debut for Fabio Fognini on the London grass. The Italian tennis player beat Frenchman Luca van Assche in three sets – 6-1 6-3 7-5.

14:00 – The first men’s winner of the day was Grigor Dimitrov (33), the tenth seed, who defeated Dusan Lajovic (34) in a straight set and advanced to the second round. The Bulgarian won the match 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

13:57 – Aryna Sabalenka withdraws from Wimbledon due to a shoulder injury. This is a huge loss for the tournament considering the level it has shown this season.

13:55 – We have our first men’s winner of the day: 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov (33) defeated Dusan Lajovic (34) in straight sets to advance to the second round. The Bulgarian won the match 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

13:49 – Two more seeds advanced to the next round in the women’s draw of the competition with 25th seed and former Wimbledon semi-finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (32) advancing to the next round after a 7-6(4), 6-1 win over Taylor Townsend (28).

Even the 28th seed Dayana Yastremska (24) reached the second round with a relatively easy victory over Argentine Nadia Podoroska (27): 6-1, 7-6(1). It went badly for the home fans, however: wildcard Heather Watson (32) failed at the first hurdle.

13:17 – Our first results from the women’s draw came as ninth seed Maria Sakkari (28) – prone to first-round disappointments – qualified with a 6-3, 6-1 win over qualifier McCartney Kessler (24). Winners also went to Varvara Gracheva (23) and Lin Zhu (30).

12:50 – 22nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova (29) withdrew from Wimbledon before her opening round match against Emma Raducanu (21) due to illness.

The Russian, whose best performance at the All England Club came last year when she reached the fourth round, has been replaced by Mexican lucky loser Renata Zarazua (26).
