MotoGP, Martin praises Bagnaia: “Ignorant those who have doubts”

Jorge Martin achieved the maximum possible in the Grand Prix held in Assen, where he had never been on the podium since he started racing in MotoGP. The only podium achieved was in 2018, when he won in Moto2. This year he obtained two second places behind the indomitable Francesco Bagnaia, who is now 10 points behind the Spaniard, leader of the general classification. Next weekend the race will take place at the Sachsenring, where in 2023 he made a double of victories beating Pecco.

MotoGP Assen, Martin with no regrets

The Prima Pramac Racing team rider said he was satisfied with his weekend at the TT Circuit and is also sure he can do very well in the next one in Saxony: “It leaves a good taste in my mouth – he told Motosan.es – because, especially on Saturday, I managed to close the gap. We made some changes to the bike and I improved a lot, but even riding well I couldn’t close the gap completely. I think it was the best weekend of Pecco’s career and to be close to him means a lot. I hope that in Germany it will be different, it’s a track where I can do better than him and where I think I can win. I hope to going into summer break as a leader, I will try to turn the tables“.

Martin hopes to stay ahead of everyone after the German Grand Prix, but he is not obsessed with this, because he knows there are still many races to go and he is optimistic about having the chance to become champion: “The goal is to do my best and try to win. Whether I’m in first place in the world championship or lose it, it doesn’t matter. It depends on me, in the end. If Pecco is at this level, it will be difficult to stop him. Everything can change quickly and I’m confident that the end of the year can be more mine than his, like in 2023“.

Jorge “defends” Pecco

There are journalists and fans who probably underestimate Bagnaia and have doubts about his value, but the Spaniard has none: “The media hype is something we riders can’t control. We try to do our best, to win, but I think there’s little doubt about a champion like Pecco, a double consecutive MotoGP champion. If someone has doubts, it’s probably because they’re ignorant.“.

A clear position from Jorge, who reiterates his belief in the possibility of beating his opponent and winning the 2024 MotoGP title: “I have to believe in it 100%. If I believed in it last year, this year I have to believe in it much more. I am a better rider, my team has more experience, I have more experience, I am faster and there is not much to doubt. In the end, on a bad weekend I arrive second, I have to continue working and surely my time will come.“He hasn’t won in the last three Grand Prix, his last success dates back to the Le Mans race, but he will be ready to fight at the Sachsenring.
