An authentic “exodus”! A very low turnout of just 37% at 11pm last Sunday also caused (perhaps…) the beautiful sunny day and the desire of many to go to the seaside, to the hills or to the mountains rather than go to the voting booth in Campobasso for the run-off of the administrative elections in order to entrust the municipal scepter of the capital to the fairer sex with Forte or De Benedittis. What is certain is that, in terms of voters, we stopped at 16 points less than the previous round, so it is hoped that with today’s half day to vote – it closes at 3.00 pm – we can return to acceptable percentages. Last night, however, the numerical response was relentless: barely a third of those entitled had entered the polling station and therefore the booth to vote, while all the others remained busy with something completely different! What does this reduced turnout mean, at least until Sunday evening? Of course, politics no longer “gets on” like it used to and people, at least the majority, have given up, turning their backs on facts and characters who have evidently gradually lost credibility, trust and so on. Proof and confirmation of this is the progressive decline in those who actually fulfill the right/duty of voting, which was once greatly felt, but today decidedly weakened. Will anything change this morning with so many Campobassans finally in the booth to vote? Above all, the two aspiring first citizens and those with them “run” for a council seat are hoping for this. Just as the public institutions are counting on us, certainly not exalted by the progressive emptying of polling stations almost everywhere in the peninsula.
