Andria, chaos in the center: electric bikes and scooters out of control – Pugliapress

These days, walking through the streets of the center of Andria has become a real nightmare for citizens. The alarm was raised by Lorenzo, a 43-year-old citizen, who recounted his misfortune during a quiet evening walk with his family.

On Friday evening, around 9pm, Lorenzo and his family were in the pedestrian areas of Via Regina Margherita, Viale Crispi and Corso Cavour, areas where the transit of cars and electric bikes is prohibited. However, the reality they faced was very different. “We were walking calmly when we were surprised by the continuous whizzing of electric bikes driven by reckless teenagers”, says Lorenzo. “Andria, alarm in the pedestrian area” is a cry for help that resonates among citizens, worried about the safety of pedestrians, especially children.

The situation is made even more dangerous by the speed with which these vehicles move, transforming pedestrians into moving targets. Lorenzo says he had to pick up her daughter to protect her, fearing an accident. Despite the numerous sanctions and seizures reported by the authorities, it seems that repression is not enough. Citizens are asking for more incisive intervention by the police, with a constant presence of Local Police patrols as a deterrent.

Even Piazza Catuma, another limited traffic area, is not immune to the problem. Lorenzo reports the presence of numerous scooters whizzing around the square, raising doubts about the real application of the current regulations. “Andria, alarm in the pedestrian area” must become a priority for local authorities, who must guarantee the safety of citizens and commercial activities, preventing fear from driving customers away from urban centres.

Summer has just begun and the citizens of Andria are asking for immediate intervention to restore order in the pedestrian areas, protecting pedestrians and restoring tranquility to their evening strolls.
