Great success for the interregional boxing tournament which was held on Saturday 22 June on Corso Nicotera in Lamezia Terme
The event, organized by the ASD Group 15 – Pugilato Lametino directed by the Masters Angelino Mascaro and Domenico Mastroianni, saw 22 boxers from Campania, Puglia, Sicily and obviously Calabria in the ring.
A great result for the event was the honor of the presence of the Italian champion Maria Giovanna Librato and the former boxer Francesco Versaci, who, in addition to boasting the victory of several Italian and world titles, holds the record as the youngest to have made his debut among professionals. The evening was also enriched by the presence of Maestro Natale Minieri, founder of Lametino Boxing and icon of national boxing. The event was dedicated to little Bianca Valentini, granddaughter of Maestro Angelino Mascaro, who passed away prematurely last year.
An evening of the highest level which saw Lametino Boxing triumph both in terms of organization and in the ring, where it came close to winning.
In fact, four victories (out of five) for Maestro Mascaro’s boys:
Giancarlo Paola in fact beat Orilia (Campania), Antonio Perri got the better of Mogavero (Campania), Alessandro Pullia overcame Librato (Puglia) and Fortunato Gallo beat the Sicilian Bascetta in a splendid match with no holds barred.
Filippo Rocca was unlucky as, despite a great match, he was unable to overcome his opponent, Lentini from Vibo.
“I am truly thrilled with the success of the event– states Maestro Angelino Mascaro – although there were three other major events happening at the same time in Lamezia, people chose to follow our tournament. Every year we try to raise the level, it’s not easy, but the boxers’ participation and the public’s response are confirmation that we are doing well. I’m also happy for my boys, they all gave their all and kept Lamezia’s honor high, I’m sorry for Filippo Rocca, perhaps he would have deserved more, but I’m sure he will be able to redeem himself from the next match”.
