61 kg of drugs, worth approximately 500 thousand euros, including 54 wraps of marijuana, for a total weight of 53 kg; 42 blocks of hashish for a total of approximately 4 kg of narcotic and another 9 for a total weight of 550 g. about; 55 hashish eggs weighing approximately 565 grams; 2 grams of cocaine, material for packaging and weighing the narcotic substance. This is what the Hawks of the State Police in Catania discovered, well hidden inside a disused car used as a deposit and positioned inside a multi-storey car park in the city.
The discovery occurred a few days ago, when a 34-year-old man from Catania was arrested after being caught red-handed for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing. The policemen of the Mobile team, during the ordinary and periodic activities aimed at containing and repressing the phenomenon of drug dealing, had noticed and put under observation the suspicious movements of a man who, having entered on foot inside a multi-storey car park, came out shortly after with a particularly bulky envelope in his hand.
The subsequent check revealed that, inside the bag, the man was carrying wrappers containing marijuana, divided into three packages, for a total weight of approximately 3 kg. He also had the sum of 800 euros with him.
From the investigations, it emerged that, within the same car park, the 34-year-old would have had access to a disused car, used as a deposit for further and larger quantities of drugs: 53 kg of marijuana, over 5 kg of hashish and 2 grams of cocaine.
The narcotic substance, with a total weight of over 61 kg, if placed on the market, according to the investigators’ estimate, would have brought in around 500 thousand euros, thus increasing the coffers of local crime.
During the investigative phases, it was the arrested man himself who complimented the Hawks to whom he said: “you did bingo”.
The 34-year-old was then arrested and, after the ritual formalities, in agreement with the PM on duty, he was taken to the prison in Piazza Lanza, at the disposal of the AG who, in recent days, validated the arrest by applying the extent of pre-trial detention in prison.
