The LGBTQIAP+ community Pride event returns to Brescia on 7 September 2024

Brescia Pride is destined to become a regular event in the Brescia summer. The first edition, in June 2017, aroused a lot of attention, even some distrust among parts of the center-left that governed the Lodge.

Today, seven years later, many doubts have disappeared but the general political climate is certainly not the best and for this reason the next Brescia Prideannounced for Saturday 7 September, «aims to address crucial issues to support the Community and all citizens involved in building a fair and welcoming society».

On Saturday 22 June, guest of the Chamber of Labour, the Brescia Pride Committee – made up of people belonging to the LGBTQIAP+ community or allies – recalled what will be the central themes of the next Pride. Which, in addition to having at its center “the right to self-determination of bodies and identities, outside the norm imposed by binary and heteronormative society”, wants to express “solidarity with the Palestinian people while condemning in the same way all forms of anti-Semitism and violence”, asks «concrete and immediate actions by institutions to fight climate change and protect the environment».

In the year of the fiftieth anniversary of the Piazza Loggia massacre, the Committee «remembers the victims of neo-fascist terrorism and affirms the need to actively practice anti-fascist values in our social and political life». In recalling the collaboration with ‘Brescia + Gentile (www.piugentile.com/), the network of inclusive venues and activities to create a city tailor-made for each individual, the committee also recalls the numerous meetings held to address the issue of accessibility and how to improve the use of events and demonstrations.

«To best prepare the parade on September 7 – they explained yesterday – we have established significant contact with the Disability Pride of Turin. This meeting was important not only for the practical suggestions that could improve the Brescia procession, but also because it represents a starting point for mutual contamination in an intersectional way between the two realities. LThe common objective is to build a network of support and collaboration that enhances diversity and promotes active and conscious participation of all people.” Appointment for September 7th: a day of celebration as intended by the organizers, but full of content.
