On the occasion of the 160th year since its foundation, the Italian Red Cross organized one non-competitive cycling relay made up of CRI volunteers and enthusiasts which they symbolically carry a “torch” from Milan, the city where Cesare Castiglioni founded the Italian Red Cross, to Solferinoon the hills between Mantua and Brescia, where the idea of ​​the Red Cross was born.

The relay started from the Milan headquarters – alla presence of president Rosario Valastro, which delivered a symbolic flag – last June 15th, the date of foundation of the Italian Red Cross, and will arrive in Solferino on June 22nd, on the day of the anniversary of the battle, for a total of one thousand kilometers divided into two different routes.

Throughout the entire process, twenty-one committees are touched; among these, on the day of Tuesday 18 June, it was the turn of the Gallarate Red Cross committeewhich saw the passage of the relay, which had begun from via Indipendenza in Como at 9.00 and finished in Busto Arsizio at 1.30pm.

While on Wednesday 19 June the relay set off from Busto Arsizio at 09.00 with the participation of two of our volunteers who arrived in Pavia with enthusiasm and emotion together with the other volunteer participants at 1.30

The aim of the initiative is to promote the principles and values ​​of the Red Cross on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the CRI through cycling, seen not only as a sporting commitment but also as attention to the environment and psycho-physical well-being.

An important and significant event, to pay homage to the Italian Red Cross and the spirit of collaboration between the various local committees.
