Brawl in Gallarate: 10 reported and DASPO for the protagonists

Gallarate (VA) – 19 June 2024 – Territorial control services have been intensified by the State Police in Gallarate, after the violent episodes that occurred last June 3 near the railway station. The investigative activity of the Public Security Commissioner led to the referral to the Judicial Authority of 10 people, including a minor, for the crimes of brawling, carrying objects capable of offending and aggravated threats.

Clashes between two groups

The reconstruction of events made it possible to ascertain that the brawl arose from a previous argument between two groups of young people: one made up of citizens of sub-Saharan origin and the other of North Africans, Albanians and Romanians.

Violence and chaos in the station

The images from the video surveillance cameras immortalized the ferocity of the clashes. The young people from the “North African, Albanian, Romanian” group, after drinking alcohol in a bar, headed towards the train station where they met some members of the other group. The clash was temporarily avoided thanks to the intervention of some passers-by, but it then exploded again in the station area.

A member of the “North African, Albanian, Romanian” group was attacked by four of the “sub-Saharan” group:

one hit him in the pelvis with the front wheel of a bicycle, another threatened him with a hammer. The fight then moved to Piazza XXV Aprile and Via Borghi, where the two groups chased each other with glass bottles and a hammer, until the arrival of the police who quelled the riots.

Measures for the safety of citizens

In light of the seriousness of the facts and the dangerousness of the subjects involved, the Police Commissioner of Varese issued DASPO Willy (“Urban Daspo for brawls”) against 7 of the suspects, with a two-year ban on access to the premises and facilities. public businesses located in the city center of Gallarate and in the area adjacent to the railway station. The measure was also adopted to prevent the recurrence of similar episodes and to protect the safety of citizens, who are particularly concerned about the violence that broke out in an area frequented by many commuters.

The DASPO Willy

DASPO Willy, introduced by Legislative Decree 130/2020, allows the Police Commissioner to issue a ban on access to certain areas to people who have participated in a fight, even if they have not been reported. Violation of DASPO is punished with imprisonment from 6 months to 2 years and a fine from 8,000 to 20,000 euros.

The commitment of the State Police

The Gallarate operation demonstrates the commitment of the State Police to combating violence and ensuring the safety of citizens. The use of DASPO Willy is an effective tool to prevent the recurrence of crimes and to protect public order.

The draw for the Olympic groups is now a done deal and the Italians will play in group “C” with Turkey, Holland and the Dominican Republic
