The Chimera Paralympic Bowls Trophy in Arezzo

The Municipal Bocciodromo of Arezzo was the scene of the 2nd Chimera HabilBocce Trophy, a regional Paralympic competition aimed at DIR (relational intellectual disability) athletes in the categories. B and C: the companies ASD Bocce Arezzo participated with all its athletes belonging to two centers in the area (Helios and Falciani), ASD Bocciofila Biturgia, ASD Cortona Bocce, Polisportiva CAM and the new entry ASD DLF Chiusi for a total of 32 athletes.

In the morning the team and individual tests took place: the Chimera Trophy for clubs went to Bocce Arezzo, which succeeds Bocciofila Biturgia in the roll of honour. The individual test instead saw Fabrizio Gori (Bocce Arezzo), Sophia Gai (DLF Chiusi), Leonardo Piegai (Biturgia) and Letizia Rossi (Polisportiva CAM) prevail. In the afternoon the pairs event saw another Arezzo success with Maria Carannante and Luca Caneschi, victorious in the final over Radames Ricci (Biturgia)-Piero Cencini (Cortona Bocce). Third place for Giampietro Mairo and Vincenzo Calvani (Polisportiva CAM), fourth for the Chusini Matteo Quinti and Andrea Goracci.

The event highlighted the benefits of bocce sport for people with intellectual-relational disabilities, i.e. the possibility of socialising, exercising and stimulating coordination skills and above all acquiring self-esteem and self-efficacy. The Chimera Habilbocce Trophy, excellently organized by a Bocce Arezzo team that is increasingly active in the promotional, youth and paralympic fields, was structured in such a way that everyone could compete according to their own abilities. Great was the joy on the faces of the kids, equally great satisfaction and gratitude on the part of the educators and instructors, great was the pride of President Rubechi’s company who put the event together thanks to the availability of the entire social body. The meeting was coordinated by Armando Martini, regional representative for paralympic activity, who rewarded the Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Arezzo Federico Scapecchi, once again present at the events organized at the Bocciodromo. Councilor Scapecchi was enthusiastic both about the climate and environment created by the club on this occasion, and about the boys’ bowling skills.
