Mayor Bonito signed the ordinance this morning which establishes a ban on transit for all bicycles and scooters with electric propulsion, and for any other type of vehicle for sustainable mobility, along all the areas affected by the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone). ). The ordinance, in force from today until 21 September 2024, was necessary to guarantee the safety of pedestrians during the summer season, a period in which the influx of people into the ZTL increases considerably.
“We are pursuing a real battle against the reckless, unconscious use of these means. My appeal is above all aimed at parents: those who get on these bikes are often children, teenagers, who do not know the highway code and who push these vehicles at often impressive speeds, with illegal modifications. Between risky overtaking or distraction, the danger is around the corner and we cannot allow it, we have the duty to guarantee everyone’s safety and security”, comments the Councilor for Safety, Teresa Cicolella, making a direct appeal especially to parents of the little ones.
“The safety councilor and the commander assured me that the checks for the seizure of modified, non-compliant vehicles will continue throughout the summer. Obviously we won’t be able to confiscate all the bikes, but we can try to increasingly restrict their use in areas frequented by children and families, the first to take risks. I too join in the simple appeal to pay more attention before letting your child ride, often, real motor vehicles, without adequate knowledge of the risks and dangers on the road. I take this opportunity to express my closeness and wish a speedy recovery to our fellow citizen who was involved in an accident yesterday while she was riding her electric bike. It is not the time for recriminations, but rather to unite and hold ourselves close to her and her family”, adds the mayor Francesco Bonito.
