He is one of three euronergreens, in the sense that he is one of the few Sassuolo players committed to Germany, and never mind if he hasn’t set foot on the pitch yet. The Euro2024 lights have not yet come on for Croatian defender Martin Erlic, but those of the transfer market have. And on his trail there are admirers that are anything but banal, namely Monza and Atalanta. Moving first, with the player’s entourage, were the Orobic team who were looking for reinforcements in defense and, shortly thereafter, Adriano Galliani’s Monza. Born in 1998, his career was closely linked to Sassuolo – he arrived from the youth team of the failed Parma in 2015 – with whom he played 56 matches, after having gained experience between Sudtirol and Spezia, Erlic is one of the many players who are unlikely to follow the Sassuolo in Serie B. They have an important market, the centre-back, who in January had been linked to a couple of German clubs, and despite a season not without difficulties within the very beaten Sassuolo defence, they continue to have him. That he leaves is more than a possibility, also considering that Sassuolo, to buy him back from Spezia, to whom they had sold him with ‘recompra’, does not cost more than 3 million euros.
