HERCOLANO – In Ercolano this is a less free summer. In fact, in La Favorita a portion of the free beach is no longer accessible as the private concessionaire of a bathing establishment has built a wooden structure, which reaches into the water, which prevents passage to the free beach. Even the ramp that allowed the passage of disabled people in wheelchairs up to the shoreline was incorporated into the seaside structure.

For these reasons, this year a protest broke out among several residents and bathers who used the free beach and many turned to the deputy of the Greens-Left alliance Francesco who carried out an inspection of the beach.

“He built a wall that reaches all the way to the sea, leaving no passage along the shoreline free and to access the free beach the only possibility is to climb over a railing and go over the cliff, which, obviously, not everyone can do. Furthermore, there they showed how the waste from the chemical toilets are spilled into the sea and a very dangerous shaky platform that reaches up to the ancient Bourbon pier. The concessionaires of the factories do not automatically become the masters of the entire area but must guarantee free access to the free beach and do not touch the shoreline which is state property and above all they must not put people’s safety at risk.
We have asked the Port Authority and Mayor Ciro Bonajuto to intervene to report this abuse and restore the path to the free beach. The sea belongs to everyone” – declared Borrelli.
