The green light arrived on the wire, it was one of the last acts of the Bellelli Council and will allow the ASD Mondial Quartirolo to start with the works at the Gallesi gym in via Ugo da Carpi. Waiting for the future city government team to take office would have meant a further postponement of the construction site which, already announced for May, will be set up starting from June 24th and will continue into the summer months.

“It has been a long and difficult journey – states the President of Mondial Luisa Riccò – started in 2022 when we started talking about the reform of the sports sector and the new rules for the management of facilities. Already in the pre-covid period the situation presented critical issues related to the availability of facilities for the winter period with sports clubs forced to reduce activity times and inconvenient transfers from one gym to another. Then with the closure of the Gallesi gym, Mondial lost its home and we can’t wait to be together again.”

The structure in via Ugo da Carpi, owned by the municipality and home to Mondial since 2001, it has been closed for two years awaiting extraordinary maintenance work and the situation was resolved last February thanks to an agreement between the Municipality of Carpi and Mondial which, in exchange for a concession for the ‘Floriano Gallesi’ gym to be managed for ten years, will take charge of maintenance work with its own resources for 200 thousand euros, in addition to utilities and ordinary maintenance: in practice Mondial will not receive municipal contributions, but will be able to count on the income deriving from its sporting activity, from sponsors and from the tariffs for the use of the facility by third parties, as defined by the council.

“It wasn’t easy to put legs to the new law, which is still little known even for the competent municipal offices, but we sat around a table to find shared solutions and whoever comes after us will find the path clear” admits Riccò.

It starts with a 93 thousand euro construction site for the adaptation of the fire detection and signaling systems, the construction of a new emergency exit, the maintenance and testing of the electrical system, the encapsulation of asbestos on the external facades. The end of the redevelopment works of the Gallesi gym is expected next September.

“We are now looking for everyone’s help to integrate our resources deriving from sporting activity with the aim of completing the project which includes, in addition to structural rehabilitation, also energy improvement. Anyone who wonders why we haven’t evaluated a new property to build a gym doesn’t consider the high emotional value that links Mondial to Gallesi, whose location is beautiful” concludes President Riccò remembering with Floriano.
