The University School for Linguistic Mediators of Lamezia Terme (SSUML), chaired by Dr. Michelangelo Cardamone, who inaugurated the 2023-2024 academic year in January with the lectio magistralis of Senator Pier Ferdinando Casini, presented his educational offer at the Liceo Statale Tommaso Campanella
In the Institute’s auditorium, packed with fifth year students, the vice principal, Professor Antonella Massimo, did the honors and brought greetings from the director, Professor Susanna Mustari. To illustrate the SSUML training offer, Dr. Michele Monaco, national coordinator of the ERSAF Research and Studies hubs (Scientific Research and Higher Education Institution).
Universo Srl, made up of ERSAF for 90% of the company shares, is the managing body of the University School for Linguistic Mediators of Lamezia Terme.
“Our University School for Linguistic Mediators in Lamezia Terme is recognized by the Ministry of University and Research – said Dr. Monaco – and provides degree courses relating to the L12 class (Linguistic and Cultural Mediation), which requires knowledge of at least two languages. We have structured five different curricula belonging to the L12 class: International and Diplomatic Organizations; Social Security and Defense (Criminology); Business and Internationalization; Advertising, Marketing and International Relations; Tourism Management and International Trade. Different skills ranging from the diplomatic field to that of the knowledge of criminal phenomena, to the economic-managerial sectors, interlinguistic communication and tourism, but with a characterizing trait: up to now graduates in the three-year course have obtained the title on average at age 23.8 years, taking 3.9 years. Once the three-year degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation has been obtained, the most followed Master’s Degree courses are: Modern Languages for Communication and International Cooperation (LM38) and Specialized Translation and Interpreting (LM94). One figure is particularly significant: 89.8% of students found work at the end of this course of study. It is also possible to undertake teaching in lower secondary schools. The competition classes are A22 for the LM94 and A-22 and A-23 for the LM38. For graduates in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation (L12) job placements take place above all in the education and research branch, in commerce and in consultancy and professional activities”.
“Our objective, in line with the indications of Prof. Michele Indelicato, director of the SSML, is to offer – specified Dr. Munich – high quality standards at accessible conditions for students: the university fee is, in fact, 1800 euros, below the state one. Our objective is quality, a condition that led the ministry to provide us with a loan of one million and 500 thousand euros. An innovative approach to train competent and motivated professionals”.
