Emilia-Romagna, the ‘yellow jersey’ Rock train arrives awaiting the Tour

In view of the departure of the Tour de France from Emilia-Romagna on June 29th from Florence, a yellow ‘Rock’ regional train travels along the tracks of Emilia-Romagna. The convoy, which has photos of two-wheel champions on its livery – starting with Gino Bartali, Fausto Coppi and Marco Pantani – left Milan, headed for Ancona. Created with the technical support of Trenitalia Tper, the train arrived this morning at Bologna central station for the official ribbon cutting. The convoy will travel until July 21st, for the entire duration of the Tour on Italian soil. After Florence the next stops are in Rimini, Cesenatico, Bologna, Piacenza and Turin.
“There couldn’t have been a better day to inaugurate this yellow train, because today is World Bicycle Day. It’s nice that when we talk about a race, a sporting event, we also talk about tourism and sustainable mobility. A few weeks and we’ll be at this departure that we have been waiting for months, I can’t wait”, says the president of Apt Emilia-Romagna, the former cyclist and coach Davide Cassani who recalls how the arrival of the Tour “is important for our territory, because it will give the possibility for the world to see our excellence”.
“For me, having the start of the Tour means bringing the Olympics to Emilia-Romagna for three days”, adds the regional councilor for Transport and Tourism, Andrea Corsini.
“For a unique occasion we needed a unique train and our Rock train is a symbol of modernity, which however marries the tradition of cycling. It will travel every day on the Via Emilia route, from Ancona to Milan and many will see it”, explains the CEO of Trenitalia Tper, Alessandro Tullio. For Gioia Bartali, grandson of Gino who won two tours within 10 years, the man from above, “it is a source of incredible pride” to see her grandfather’s image on the train’s livery. “My grandfather – he concludes – would be very happy”.
