Disservices: Trenitalia does not ensure availability in case of emergencies

PISTOIA – I would like to once again denounce Trenitalia’s disorganization in the management of its services.

I am an OSS who works at the Santa Maria Nuova hospital who would like to be able to easily use a public service to go to work regularly.

To get to work on time, in the morning I take the 5.52 train from Pistoia. This morning this train was canceled because the driver who was supposed to drive it was stuck on the motorway due to an accident. The next train leaves at 7.32 from Pistoia, so you can understand with what a heavy delay I would have arrived on shift to relieve colleagues who had already worked 12 hours at night.

I wonder: beyond the road accident, anyone can be missing due to an unexpected event for which the company should arrange the availability of every person who can replace in an emergency.

Is it normal that if the driver is missing, a train is canceled without providing any alternative? Like a replacement bus or a person, indeed available, who in this case could have remedied the situation?

As a public service worker, I cannot leave the shift uncovered and in the company we have contact details for the various professional figures. Why doesn’t the same happen in Trenitalia’s public service company? I remember that in Florence there are various important hospitals where many commuters like me work, even on Sundays and holidays. Why are we not protected?
In addition to this, I also find it really uncivilized that during strikes on public holidays there is no guarantee band like on weekdays. Because even with the guarantee band it creates inconvenience for people who have to stay out for a whole day to work half of it. Not guaranteeing anything for 24 hours seems uncivilized to me. Would the person who established these rules like to enter a hospital and not find anyone to help him? Why are some hospital workers always prescripted to ensure this doesn’t happen? Why doesn’t the same happen in public transport?
Obviously I’m talking about my category because it’s the one I know best, but many other people need to take the train because they work on Sundays, such as those who work in hotels, shops, etc.
