The Made in Piceno university is now focusing on the fashion course. Here is the route

ASCOLI Without its own university campus, but with two universities ready to push the accelerator: the travertine city thus becomes the laboratory par excellence. After the summer, in October the curtain will rise on the prestigious degree course “Landscape, innovation, sustainability” (Pais), the first inter-university project between Polytechnic of Ancona and the University of Camerino, the two big names in the Marche region. The location will be Annunziata: it will be a master’s degree course, graduates will be able to access it Agriculture and Architecture, with the aim of training an internationally recognized professional landscape designer.

And in the meantime, the reasoning is being refined regarding the arrival in the near future of another course, branded Unicam, on fashion and creative productions. «We don’t have our own university, but we have two like Unicam and Politecnica which think according to the Piceno territory», explains Claudio Massi, president of the Piceno University Consortium. However, one of the greatest opportunities looms on the horizon: Ascoli as the location for a high school in central Italy. The League’s bill, first signed by the Honorable Giorgia Latini, continues its process in Parliament: it is expected to establish a reality of absolute importance in the Piceno capital, with high profile research doctorate courses, including international ones, in collaboration with the Polytechnic of the Marche, the universities of Perugia and L’Aquila. Focus on some disciplinary areas of a strategic nature for the territories of Central Italy.

The high school

«This is a project of enormous value – declares the Honorable Latini -. An experiment of this type is giving excellent results in the South. It was time for a discussion to also be set up for our territory, the nerve center of the country.” Meanwhile, the Made in Piceno university is preparing the ground: the students enrolled in the province in the Ascoli and San Benedetto campuses are equivalent to a third of the total number. Starting from July, the first graduates of the Polytechnic’s course in innovative agricultural systems will arrive. Four out of five young people are from Piceno: two from Spinetoli, one from Force and one from Rotella. The imprint of the territory is felt. «The entire Piceno must support the university system. The opportunities are there. The effects would be positive for all Municipalities, regardless of the physical location where the degree courses are located”, asks Massi loudly. The president of the Piceno university consortium leads the way for one of the priority issues: student housing and specific accommodation to guarantee residential accommodation. «At the end of the month I will meet the Erdis leaders to discuss the situation in Ascoli», he underlines.

The companies

The emphasis also falls on the need for connections between universities and companies: here is the framework agreement between the Building School Authority, Unicam, the School of Architecture and Design, the Piceno University Consortium and some construction companies such as Gaspari, Panichi, Turla, Ubaldi for advanced programs and courses aimed at Saad students. «It constitutes a fundamental element of facilitating access to the world of work», he claims. Finally, a look at the university consortium, at the present, at the future. The board of directors is expiring. «I am satisfied, I am committed to listening to the territory to give value to the orientation and strength to the university system», points out President Massi. A possibility of finding spaces in the now derelict Montevecchi auditorium? Massi agrees. «It would be a nice idea. Maybe the Consortium could use it in part.”
