suspected of crime after the death of an 81-year-old woman fatally wounded during a shooting
The agents of the State Police – of the Rome Flying Squad, coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor’s Office – District Anti-Mafia Directorate, are proceeding with the arrest of a crime suspect against a twenty-eight-year-old Italian seriously suspected of having exploded yesterday, in via della Riserva Nuova , several shots fired, one of which seriously injured an 81-year-old woman, who died today.
The woman, injured in the lung, was transported in serious condition to Umberto I in Rome. During the surgery, the 81-year-old lost around two liters of blood, which is why she was in a medically induced coma. This morning her death occurred.
The facts
the woman had gone out for a walk with her friend and was killed by a stray bullet fired from a 380 caliber semi-automatic pistol. This also happens in the eastern quadrant of Rome where Caterina Ciurleo was wounded yesterday afternoon in front of the shopping center and was died this morning after a few hours of agony. Five bullet casings were found by forensic police officers in via Don Primo Mazzolari in the Villaggio Prenestino area of Rome; all fired from the same gun, meaning that it was only one person who shot and that what killed the 81-year-old was not a firefight, but more likely an ambush between criminals. Obviously she was a stranger to it. In fact, witnesses reported two cars, one of which would be a Fiat 500 and a second car; the shots would have come from one of the two vehicles chasing the other. Five shots fired, one went through the rear door of the Smart, reaching the passenger seat where Caterina Ciurleo was sitting; her nose cone remained lodged in her lung.
It is probable that the shooter did not even realize what he had done, despite knowing, however, that murder was the risk he ran by shooting in a public area. He then continued his pursuit. Caterina, however, was rushed to hospital where she underwent more than one surgery during which the nose cone was removed. Efforts and suffering which, however, did not save her life. The woman died this morning while she was in an induced coma after losing over 2 liters of blood. In front of the shopping centre, immediately after the events, the flying squad agents began carrying out surveys and acquiring images from the cameras. The focus is on cars and license plate numbers to trace the owners and who was driving them at the time.
