New school buses for Viterbo students: deserted race, let’s start again from the beginning
Merged the two purchase lots and almost tripled the price offered. Now Francigena will take care of it

VITERBO – The school buses have not been found for the students of Viterbo and surrounding areas, sought by the Municipality with a tender concluded in recent months, now we start again, with a tender that brings together the two planned purchase lots, one for 2023 and one for 2024, for a total of at least 9 vehicles and a total price of over 1 million euros. The small kindergarten, elementary and middle school students will still have to wait for the new minibuses
The Francigena company has been entrusted with the task of finding and purchasing the 9 school buses that should renew the fleet of vehicles intended for the right to education: the subsidiary will have to rush if it wants to start them up as early as September, but it will be very difficult . The last tender, where 6 vehicles were sought for a starting bid of 361 thousand euros in total, plus VAT, a proposal was presented by a company from Bari, which however did not complete the procedure due to its inability to satisfy the requests. Now the amount has almost tripled, with a tender of 1 million and 85 thousand euros, inclusive of all charges, VAT included, for a minimum of 9 school buses.
‘The type of vehicles sought were not found on the market’ explains the councilor for school transport Katia Scardozzi ‘so we decided to leave it to the Francigena company which has much more expertise than us in the matter, having years of experience behind it, and he knows better than the office technicians what means to look for and under what conditions. The issue of the higher price was due to the general increase in prices that there has been in the last year. If we rush, we will try to install new school buses, which will also serve the hamlets, by September, but it will be very difficult.’
