PESCARA – The results of the analyzes carried out by the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (Arta) to safeguard the health of swimmers in the waters of the middle Adriatic, have highlighted microbiological parameters that are almost all compliant with legal limits.

There are only two stretches of sea for which a temporary ban has been triggered: the first in San Vito Chietino, 50 meters south of the Cinzioni ditch where, however, the additional analyzes carried out on Tuesday by the technicians of the Environmental Agency showed positive outcome causing the alarm to disappear and the ban to expire. The second critical issue was found, however, in Pineto, at kilometer 424.100 of State Road 16: in this case, the result of the supplementary elections which could trigger the green light for the immediate revocation of the ban is expected today .

In the 3 stretches for which the temporary ban was placed at the beginning of the season due to the poor quality of the water, as per the resolution of the Regional Council, the sample results all comply with the legal parameters, i.e. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci.

These are the points located in the municipality of Pescara, the area in front of via Leopardi; Rocca San Giovanni, area in front of km484.625 of state road 16 and Vasto, Cordella seafront, monument to the bather area.

Having obtained two positive results in two consecutive samplings, carried out 15 days apart, it will now be up to the mayors of the territorially competent Municipalities to formulate a request to the Maritime Works and Marine Waters Service of the Region, to obtain the revocation of the temporary bans. The request must be accompanied by all remediation measures aimed at removing the causes of pollution and improving the water.

However, the points located in Ortona, 350 meters south of the mouth of the Foro river and 200 meters south of the mouth of the Aielli river, remain prohibited for the whole of 2024; and in San Vito Chietino, 100 meters north of the mouth of the Feltrino river.

“Monitoring along the coasts of the Abruzzo coast – declares in a note the general director of Arta Abruzzo, Maurizio Dionisio – will continue punctually throughout the entire bathing season, according to the scheduled programming. Analytical accuracy and precision in sampling – he concludes – represent essential characteristics in carrying out analysis activities, fundamental not only for the protection of citizens, but also for the purposes of assigning the blue flags which are so important for supporting the growth of tourism in this region ”.
